I’m Lauren, a Confidence Mentor for Women.
I know what it is like to be a woman who lacks confidence.
I started my writing career as a ghostwriter in the leadership and self-help genre. So in more ways than one, I was invisible. I worked with CEOs, helping them to organize their thoughts into book manuscripts. And I did this successfully for years. I’ve led a wallflower existence for most of my life. Except for one thing: it started to bother me. I had so many good ideas. And I was tired of having everyone else take credit for them. But I was too scared to put myself out there. To put my name on things. So I let others do it. I gave away my credibility, for free. Until my gut told me it was time to stop.
About the time I started writing a regular leadership coaching column for Forbes (under the byline of my boss) I realized just how much my insecurities were taking advantage of me. My potential as a writer was far larger than I ever dared to believe. And that was the tipping point. I started working on my confidence like it was my full-time job because I didn’t want to exist this way anymore. I wonder, do you enjoy existing this way?
Letting others take the credit for your work?
Supporting someone else’s dreams while you back-shelf your own?
Staying silent, small, and underestimated in every room?
The switch that finally turned on inside of me was my dissatisfaction with life. I had a lot of important things to say but didn’t know how to have my own back. Or how to speak up when I disagreed with someone. Or how to push back when someone unexpectedly tested my boundaries. And it felt like the biggest obstacle in the world to me. After I spent my twenties voraciously reading psychology books about assertiveness, communication, and achievement and working side-by-side with successful corporate business leaders, I can teach you a thing or two about all of these things I had to learn the hard way.
